Supporting the community during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Ooredoo has pledged funds to Dar Al Atta’a’s relief initiative for those financially impacted by the outbreak. Called “Together in Hardship and Ease”, the ongoing scheme is gathering donations to support families in Oman whose income has been reduced or those who have experienced job loss. Part of Ooredoo Goodwill, the company’s CSR programme, the contribution joins various country-wide efforts to mitigate the health and economic effects of the crisis.

Feras bin Abdullah Al Shaikh, Director of Branding and Communications at Ooredoo, said, “Ooredoo Goodwill is the cornerstone of our community commitment and through it we are stepping up in times of need. We are glad to play our part in alleviating some of the hardship being experienced by people as a direct result of the Coronavirus and we are confident that with the support of Dar Al Atta’s fantastic initiative – and others like it – we will overcome these challenging times.”

Through donations, the “Together in Hardship and Ease” initiative is able to provide support in a number of ways, including the payment of utility bills, payment of rent and deferred loans, the provision of food aid, and helping home business owners whose operations have been suspended as a result of the crisis. The charity has estimated that up to 70,000 people’s daily income will be affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Shamsa Al Harthi, General Manager of Dar al Atta’a, also commented, “On behalf of Dar Al Atta’a I would like to express my appreciation to Ooredoo for their continuous support for our social welfare programs, and especially now when it is needed more than ever. We look forward to building on a long and sustainable relationship while we come to the aid of our community in need.”

In addition to the donation, Ooredoo has announced a string of initiatives, offers and freebies that aim to help the community through the pandemic, from free calls and data to encouraging customers to stay at home with its expanding range of digital services.
