With Eid Al Fitr here, Ooredoo is celebrating the homecoming of volunteers from its 20th Goodwill Journey this Ramadan. Comprising meaningful and empowering community development initiatives, this year’s journey mainly focused on the Omani youth, women, children, and the environment. Like every year, a dedicated team travelled across Oman to upgrade the worlds of communities in the long run by driving sustainable change.
For the past two decades, the annual Goodwill Journey has been one of the Company’s flagship and community-led Corporate Social Responsibility programmes. It aims to connect volunteers with the most pressing requirements of local communities countrywide. At the heart of the Goodwill Journey lies the ambition to spread joy across Oman and make a real, sustainable, difference to the lives of others and to their environment, so that people can thrive during Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr and beyond.
The 20th Goodwill Journey, led by Ayesha Al Shoily, Head of CSR, consisted of 20 different social impact initiatives across Oman. Among the highlights was the inauguration of the ‘Little Innovator Hall’ in Wilayat of Quriyat, which provides innovative school students with educational opportunities in technology.
The ‘O Labs’ or digital rooms enhance the technical skills of people with disabilities, and were inaugurated at the Al Wafa Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled in Buraimi and at the Al Noor Society for the Blind in Nizwa and Bowsher.
Another outstanding initiative benefitting hundreds of children during this Goodwill Journey was the new ‘Ooredoo Carpentry Room’ at the Al Wafa Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled Children in Dima W’attayeen. Further supporting the Omani youth, the team attended the graduation of 50 Omanis from the Wilayat of Muttrah, who participated in an Ooredoo-supported electrician training programme for young Omani job seekers.
Further, the Manah Health Center will be equipped with a smart primary healthcare hall with an interactive space that focuses on disease prevention and the promotion of public health.
In Salalah the team launched a ‘Kiswat Al Eid’ initiative by donating gift vouchers to low-income families and orphans. In cooperation with O Taxi, Ooredoo also sponsored the design of several taxis for women drivers with a limited income in Salalah.
And not forgetting the environment, the planting of 1,000 tree seedlings in Ibri helped to spread the green theme. It was part of the National Initiative of Planting 10 million trees in cooperation between the Environment Authority and Omani Women Association.
The aforementioned initiatives were a few of the many endeavours that were part of celebrating two decades of Ooredoo making an effective contribution for good across Oman. For more information on Ooredoo’s 20th Goodwill Journey and other CSR initiatives, please visit www.ooredoo.om.
