Celebrating two decades of making an effective contribution for good, Ooredoo kicked off its 20th Goodwill Journey, one of the telco’s flagship and community-led Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Every year during Ramadan, volunteers travel across Oman to upgrade the worlds of communities and citizens, including women, youth, and people with disabilities, by driving sustainable change and partnering with local stakeholders to make a real difference to everyday lives.
This year, the celebratory send-off from Muttrah took place under the auspices of the H.E. Al-Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat. Originally launched in 2004 to support communities during Ramadan, the Goodwill Journey is part of the company’s broader CSR Programme.
Bassam Al Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer at Ooredoo, said “Over the past two decades, Ooredoo’s Goodwill Journey has been based on turning good intentions into action. Every year, volunteers travel thousands of kilometres across Oman to create a positive, long-term and measurable impact on our communities. As we focus on sustainability, we can measure the progress we have made in achieving our purpose, which is to upgrade the worlds of Omani people while fostering sustainable growth by making effective contributions to society.”
Through various projects across three main focus areas: People & Society, Economy & Development, and Sustainable Environment, Ooredoo aims to provide people with the knowledge, skills and/or means to improve their lives in both big and small ways. The Goodwill Journey 20 will centre on social development, education and training, digital projects and empowerment. The specific themes include ‘A Digital Lifestyle in Education and Training’, ‘Youth, Women, and Small Office/Home Office (SoHo)’, ‘Environment’, ‘People with Disabilities and Special Needs’, and ‘Community-Wide Support projects.’
